Scaled Bones in Animation
« on: February 15, 2009, 01:58:44 am »

Hey there all,

So I'm working on an animation system for a small scale 3D project and I've run into a problem. I'm doing skinned animations and have successfully tested my system in several different steps. After getting done with my testing I placed on of the games actual animations and a model to go with it into the system and it was not working. I began retracing my steps and found that when I just rendered the bones (just drawing spheres where the joints should be) the bones were scaled much larger than the mesh was. Now I know very little about Maya and I'm not sure if this is a Maya problem or something in my code, but since I have successfully tested the system with another model and animation I'm pretty sure it's something in the new model. If anyone has any ideas or thoughts about how to fix this then please let me know.

be sure to check (window->settings/preferences->preferences->Settings) to view the "working Units" the default is centimeters, even thought a "unit" is a arbitrary measurement in 3d, it may not be the same as a unit in your engine. Most engines don't support scaled joints either though.
